At the National level, National Dairy Development Board, New Delhi has been established, which co-ordinates the functioning of all the dairy institutions of the states in the country.
7) How the milk unions function?
Milk Producers Cooperative Societies collect milk twice, everyday from the milk producers which will be sent to the District Milk Cooperative Unions. Milk Unions process the milk and sell to the consumers & convert unsold milk into milk products.
8) Which are the milk products of the Union?
Apart from Nandini Milk, to meet the demand of the consumers, milk products like good life, curds, butter, ghee, flavoured milk (in 8 flavours), Mysore Pak, Nadini Burfi, Rasgulla, Badam Powder, Jamun Mix, Ice Cream and Kunda are produced.
9) What is the average collection and sale of milk was every day?
During 2009-10 an average of 35.79 lakh Kgs milk collected and average 24.70 lakh litres of milk sold every day.
10) What are the objectives of KMF?
Following are the objectives of KMF.
- Establishment of Primary Milk Producers Coop. Societies in the Coop. Sector to manage the dairy activities.
- Provide assured and remunerative market for the milk produced by the farmer members.
- Provide quality milk and milk products.
Facilitate rural development by providing opportunities for self employment at village level and usher in social and financial prosperity in the lives of rural milk producers.

The units of KMF are:
- Mother Dairy, Yelahanka.
- Nandini Milk Products, KMF Complex, Bangalore.
- Cattle Feed Plant at Rajankunte, Gubbi, Dharwad and Hassan.
- Nandini sperm centre, Hesaraghatta.
- Pouch Film Factory at Munnekolala.
- Central Training Institute at Bangalore, and Regional Training Centre at Dharwad and Mysore.
- Milk Powder Plant at Channarayapatna, Shetty Hally.
12) What are the achievements of KMF?
- It has brought the entire Karnataka State under Dairy Development
- Payment of higher price to the milk producers.
- Implementation of Yashaswini Health Scheme to benefit farmer familities of dairy cooperatives.
- KMF is implementing Central Government Schemes such as clean Milk Production Programme and State Government Schemes such as Amrutha Yojane.
- Opening of Nandini Dairy Farmers Welfare Trust Hostel for farmers Children.
- Nandini Sperm Station has been awarded with ISO certificate.
13) What are the further developmental programmes of KMF?
- A new 300 MTS Balanced cattled feed plant, to meet the demand for balanced cattle feed in the State is being constructed at Hassan with an outlay of '. 39 crores.
- The NDDB has approved the project for establishing a modern cattle feed plant of 500 MTS capacity at Challaghatta Village of Bangalore Rural District.
- Under National Dairy Plan of NDDB, a project for selection of HF bulls through progeny testing programme is started.
- Import of High Pedigree Bull Calves Embryos & Semen for breeding purpose is under process.
14) What are the documents required for approval of the cadre strength, and pay scale of the employees of the District Coop. Milk Producers Union?
Following documents are required for approval of the cadre strength and pay scales,
- Information as per check list.
- 3 years Audited Balance Sheet of the Union.
- Percentage of EST cost to the turnover.
- Copy of the Board Meeting resolution of the Union regarding this subject.
15) Who can contest for the election of the Board of Directors of the Milk Producers Cooperative Societies?
Any person who is a member of the Milk Producers Cooperative Society and who has supplied milk for a minimum period of 180 days can contest for the election of the Board of Directors of the society.
