KARNATAKA STATE COIR COOPERATIVE FEDERATION LTD., BANGALORE

The Karnataka State Coir Co-operative Federation was established in the year 1961 with the main objective of developing coir sector in the State through Co-operative movement.

The main objectives are as follows:

  • To assist and support primary coir Co-op. Societies.
  • To provide training to manufacture coir products.
  • Supply of raw-materials.
  • Marketing of coir products.
  • Technical guidance.
  • Implementation of Govt. sponsored schemes in Coir Sector.

LARGE SIZED ADIVASI-MULTI PURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES (LAMPS) AND LAMPS FEDERATION

There are 23 Large sized Adivasi-Multi Purpose Co-operativeSocieties Societies working in the State. These societies have been organised with the objective of improving the social and financial conditions of the adivasis
These societies conduct the following activities:-
  • Collection and marketing of Minor Forest Produce by the Tribal people and improving the financial position by providing employment.
  • Distribution of essential commodities and other consumer articles to its members and supply of food grains to the student hostels of SC and ST communities.
  • Providing loans to its members and running processing units and other related activities.

KARNATAKA STATE LAMPS COOPERATIVE FEDERATION LTD., MYSORE.

Objectives/Activities:-

  • To organize, plan the growth, development of natural products and their trade on traditional, scientific and commercial basis in the interest of the tribal population in the area of operation of the Federation.

  • To strive to ensure higher earning and larger employment opportunities for the tribal population by formulation of suitable economic schemes based on natural products or otherwise.

  • To ensure full utilization of natural products available in the tribal areas including farm and forest produce by exploring, and by improving their marketability through organized efforts.

  • To identify items of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) in different areas to be brought under the sector of the Co-operative marketing and make recommendations for fixation of minimum prices of such MFP in the tribal areas by each member society.

  • Federation is extending Financial assistance to member societies for procurement of MFP.

  • Federation is assisting the Member societies for better Marketing of MFP.

  • Federation is Coordinating with Forest Department for better coordination in the interest of societies.

  • Federation is organizing training and workshop programmes with the assistance of The Karnataka State Cooperative Federation.Top

Minor Forest Produce marketed by the federation in the year 2009-10 it was Rs.6.92 lakhs, and in the year 2010-2011 is worth  Rs.16.61 lakhs.

Profit for the year 2009-10 was Rs.17.63 lakhs and Accumulated profit for the year 2010-11 is Rs.34.85 lakhs.

KARNATAKA CO-OPERATIVE POULTRY FEDERATION (LTD):

Karnataka Co-operative Poultry Federation was established on 15-3-1995 with following objectives:

  • Organization of primary poultry Co-operative societies throughout the state in order to generate employment among the educated rural unemployed youth.
  • Imparting modernized poultry training techniques.
  • Poultry disease surveillance and control of diseases.
  • Rearing and marketing of Giriraja Chicks.
  • Creating awareness amongst public regarding Avian Influenza and other emerging diseases through meeting, seminars, workshops etc by the State and District Level Animal Disease Emergency committee.
  • Providing financial assistance to interested farmers/ societies through NABARD under Centrally sponsored schemes for poultry such as “Venture Capital Fund”.

83 primary poultry Co-operative societies have been affiliated to the federation as on 31-03-2011. for the current year Government has sanctioned grant-in-aid of Rs 100.87 lakhs..

Under Special Component Plan, 6 chicken and egg sale Centers have been established with an expenditure of Rs. 362.61 lakhs for the year 2008-09 to 2011-12.

THE KARNATAKA STATE COOPERATIVE WOMEN FEDERATION LTD., BANGALORE.

The Karnataka State Co-operative Women Federation Ltd., Bangalore, was registered on 25-11-1992. It is a state level Co-operative Institution. The main objectives of this Federation are as under:

  • Organisation and Development of District, Block and Primary level Women Co-operative Societies.

  • To improve the financial positions of the members of the Dist. Women Cooperative Societies and to work for the women empowerment both in educational and social sphears.

  • To provide suitable marketing opportunities to the products manufactured by the women Cooperatives.

  • To give a wide publicity to the activities of the women Cooperatives.

  • To conduct seminars, meetings and Workshops for the members of women Cooperatives and to provide a forum for discussion on the problems faced by the women Cooperatives.

  • To start working womens Hostel to provide accommodations for working women’s.

The membership to the State Women Cooperative Federation is opened to all Dist. Level women Multipurpose Cooperative Societies, Women Cooperative banks and other Women Cooperative societies.Top

KARNATAKA CO-OPERATIVE FISHERIES FEDERATION LTD., MYSORE

The Karnataka Co-operative Fisheries Federation was registered on 02-10-1989 with jurisdiction extending to Karnataka State and membership of 213 societies out of which 13 SC / ST and 10 women fisheries societies.

The Main objectives and activities of Federation are as follows:

  • Implementation of “Reservoir Fisheries Development Project” through Primary Fishermen Co-operative Societies (FCS)

  • To produce good quality fish seed from fish seed production centers and to supply them to fishermen co-operative societies and fish farmers.

  • Purchase of fish from FCS at fair price and arranging for sale through kiosks in towns and cities.

  • Implementing of fishermen housing scheme and other social welfare activities of fisheries departmen.

  • Federation has implemented “Reservoir Fisheries Development Project” in Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya and Hassan districts with an expenditure of Rs. 428.39 lakhs.

Fish seed production and rearing:

Federation is producing fish seeds in Kabini, Nugu, Gundal, Bidrahalli and Bhadra Project fish seed production centers. During 2010-11, total 153.965 lakh fish fingerlings have been supplied from Federation.

THE KARNATAKA STATE COOPERATIVE FEDERATION LTD.,

 
Mysore Provincial Co-operative Institution came into existence on 27th August 1924 with the sole objective of providing the necessary co-operative education, training for the development of the co-operative movement of the state and also to give wide publicity for the activities of the co-operatives.  Like minded co-operators were behind this move.  This organization was renamed as Mysore State Co-operative Union soon after the re-organization of states on linguistic basis.  Further again four co-operative institutions were merged and the new institution was formed called Karnataka State Co-operative Federation Limited.
 

Objectives

Providing required education and training for the development of co-operative movement in the State and also to give wide publicity for the activities of the co-operatives. 

Activities of the Federation

  1. Member education programme under co-operative education with the guidance from National Co-operative Union of India have been successfully implemented since 1957.  Under this scheme, education is provided to the Secretaries, Members, Executive Committee Members, Staff, Women and SC, ST members of the Societies.
  2. To bring the women folk into the co-operative movement till then away from it, a separate Women’s wing was started in 1966.
  3. Federation has been running 8 co-operative training centres through which a diploma in co-operative management training is conducted for a period of 34 weeks.
  4. Federation has been publishing a “Sahakara” News Weekly which is in its 48th year of publication provides vital information on the co-operative movement, Government circulars, Progress reports of the co-operatives.  Interviews with co-operators, educative articles and news to the readers.

Publicity:

            Federation has been publishing “Sahakara Weekly” for the last 42 years.  Weekly includes the news and views on co-operatives, Government Circulars, Progress report on co-operatives, interview with Senior co-operators, information on best co-operators and such other items.  At present, about 9,000 co-operatives and co-operators have enrolled as subscribers for the weekly.Top

Cluster type training programme:

           With a view to make the member education programme more effective and also to face the global challenges in this regard, it was decided to arrange cluster type training programmes keeping 2 or 3 co-operative institutions in a group at the village level and impart the required training to the participants. 

            The cluster programme has been widely appreciated.  Directors of the Societies, Women members, Members belonging to SC/ST and Youth are participating in this programme and the progress is as follows:

THE KARNATAKA STATE COOPERATIVE SPINNING MILLS FEDERATION

The Karnataka State Co-operative Spinning Mills Federation Limited, Bangalore, was registered on 22-07-1974. The 12 Co-operative Spinning Mills in the State are the members of this Federation.

This Federation provides technical, financial and administrative help to the Cooperative Spinning Mills in the State along with working as Project Consultants & Implementing Agents for the establishment of new projects.

Provides to the Commissioner for Textiles all required information along with comparative statements for reviewing the working of the mills.

Provides all required information to yarn price fixing Committee headed by the Commissioner for Textiles. Provide training to the Technical, Financial and Administrative Staff and also to Directors.Top

WATER USERS COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

In the State, 2818 Water users Cooperative Societies are registered, of which as on 31/03/2011, 2540 are working .

WOMEN COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

In the State 1347 Women Cooperative Societies are registered.

COOPERATIVE HOSPITALS

In the State 14 Cooperative Hospitals are registered of which 09 are working.

RURAL ELECTRICAL COOPERATIVE SOCIETES

The cooperative movement has touched even the power sector. In addition to power generation the cooperatives are performing a significant role in the distribution of power.

In the State 5  Rural Electrical Cooperative Societies are working as on 31.03.2011 in the state. Of which Rural Electrical Co-operative Society, Society, Hukkeri, was registered in 1969, and as on 31-03-2011 , a share capital of Rs.4.00crores (of which Government share is Rs. 41.70 lakhs) and Rs.107.41 crores as working capital. As on 31-03-2011 it has provided electricity to 107 villages, 15 hamlets and 14 rehabilitation centers. It is functioning as an alternative to KPTCL., in power distribution.

TRANSPORT COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

There are 14 cooperative Societies in the State working as on 31-03-2011. Of these, Transport Cooperative Society Ltd., Koppa, registered in 1991 has 80 buses and 213 individuals and 73 Primary Co-operative Societies members. The Society covers 65% of the routes in rural areas of Chickmagalur District.

FISHERIES COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

In the State, there are 463 Fisheries Cooperative Societies as on 31.03.2010.

TREE GROWERS COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

In Kolar District, 14 Tree Growers Cooperative Societies are working. The said societies are preserving and developing forest areas in the District.

LABOUR COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

There are 139 Labour contract and construction Cooperative Societies and 35 forest Labour Cooperative Societies in the State. Top

SPORTS PROMOTION & DEVELOPMENT COOPERATIVE SOCIETY, CHANDARAGI

This institution was registered in 1983 to promote sports and it is a State level Institution. It has a residential sports school which provides hostel facilities to 821 students. The institution is running a school both in Kannada and English Medium from VI standard to XII Standard.

Objectives:

  1. To encourage sports and sportsmen.
  2. To organise sports and to recognise Sportsmen of outstanding calibre.
  3. To provide training to prosessing sportsmen.
  4. To establish sports school, college and hostel.
